Physiotherapy and NDIS Support Services
The NDIS support services provides funding for a variety of disability supports. It allows participants to choose the disability services they need to pursue their goals.
Physiotherapy services help people with physical disabilities to improve their function through hands-on treatment and exercise programs. Other disability support services include Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is an important part of a person’s overall health and well-being. It is a health care discipline that uses physical techniques such as hands on manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, heat or cold, water, massage, acupuncture and more. NDIS participants can utilise physiotherapy supports under the core, capital and capacity building sections of their plan. Physiotherapy services are charged at the NDIS price guide rates and can be agency or self-managed.
At Realisation Healthcare, we are a registered NDIS provider that specialises in disability physiotherapy. Our experienced and qualified team of physiotherapists can deliver tailored physiotherapy to meet your goals. We will conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand your needs and create a treatment plan that aligns with your NDIS plan goals. We can also assist with navigating NDIS processes, including preparing support budgets and sourcing providers. Please contact us for more information.
Occupational Therapy
The NDIS allows participants to use their individual budgets to access a huge range of supports. These supports are broken down into three categories; core, capital and capacity building.
Physiotherapy is one of the core support services. It involves helping people with disability improve their ability to carry out everyday activities through hands on treatment and exercise programs. It also aims to reduce pain and increase mobility.
Another of the core services is occupational therapy. It aims to help people with disabilities participate in activities that are meaningful and enjoyable to them. This can be anything from cooking to getting out more with friends.
NDIS participants can also have a plan management provider and a support coordinator who help manage their NDIS budget and connect them to providers. These providers can be registered and have a good track record. They must also be able to meet the quality and safeguards requirements of the NDIS. These requirements are set out in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits and Support Catalogue.
Social and Community Participation
NDIS funding can cover a range of social and community participation activities. It is a specific support category that can be found under Core and Capacity Building in your personalised plan.
Taking part in community activities and social events helps participants improve their quality of life and reduces the risk of isolation. Activities are often tailored to your interests and goals. For example, one of our clients Fran was always interested in chess and now has a recurring weekly game with her friend Albert. It’s now something that they look forward to each week and she has made new friends as a result of being more active in her local community.
Your therapists will help you identify your social and community participation goals. Then a specialist support coordinator can work with you to find the right services for your needs. They can also assist with planning and managing your NDIS budget. They will also connect you with trustworthy providers and manage the ongoing administrative administration of your plan.
Support Coordination
A support coordinator can help you understand the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and your own plan. They can also connect you to services that align with your goals. They can also assist you to build your skills to manage your own NDIS supports, and can help you to address any issues that may arise with providers.
Specialist support coordination is a higher level of service, and focuses on helping participants manage challenges in their environment, while ensuring consistent delivery of supports. This type of support can be accessed via funding in your NDIS plan, and can be provided by a registered provider or another organisation.
You can find more information on NDIS support coordination through our online course, Support Coordination Fundamentals. This workshop covers topics including understanding your NDIS budget and how to claim; working with your support network; and connecting you to informal, community and funded supports. You can also attend a face-to-face version of this training.
